OH WHAT A PARTY WE HAD.
What a party we had, did we? oh yes we did. Some 25 members turned up for the social gathering bearing prizes for the raffle table, food for the intermission nibbles and some photographs for the photographic competition. The show table was a bit more limited but the display table had a good showing of plants.
Pam and David got there early so as to set up the kitchen, music and the tables around the room so all was looking good as the members arrived. A gathering of ladies soon had the food nicely presented and cups of tea and coffee were being served to those that wished to partake at this time.
At 7.30 the call went up “Have you voted?” and the members duly filed forward to fulfil their voting obligations on the nights show table. Ten minutes later David was introducing the guest for the evening and judge for the photographic competition “Becky” from Youngs photographic.
The evening started with the usual 20 question quiz and this was won by Richards wife Mandy who scored most points.
David explained that due to his health problems he had repeated for those who had never done it the ‘Nail ‘ puzzle but for the others he had a new wooden puzzle all were passed out and it was fun to see the way members set about the method of solving their individual puzzle. Mandy again won the nail puzzle with a quite astonishing speed. The other puzzle of fitting 5 pegs into a wooden block proved to be a dead heat between David Shailes and Fran Munford, all three received their prizes as the rest of the members enjoyed their nibbles as they continued to work on the puzzles. Robin getting to a point of wanting to get out a knife to slice off the over hanging piece of his puzzle to make it complete but another member completed it for him.
The next sheet of questions was passed out and members nibbled away at their plates of goodies and worked on the questions at the same time. Pam making tea and coffee as members requested it. Friendly banter was a fun part of the evening as members toiled away to a background of music.
Richard Hirson called out as he had the highest number of correct answers and then admitted he had cheated by using his phone to go on the internet to get some answers. The prize eventually went to Mrs Hunter.
Becky then came up to the front and selected the three prize winning photographs as chosen be her. In reverse order and receiving a trophy and a certificate was Richard Hirson, In second place also receiving a trophy and certificate was David Bond and the outright winner taking the cup and certificate was Richard Hirson. The winning plant on the show table was a spectacular Rodriguzzia lancelata owned by Fran Munford. Limited though the plants were on the show table there were some very good competing plants but maybe it was the red spikes that drew members eyes, no matter it’s a well done to the winner Fran. The raffle table was full it being Christmas and Robin called out the winning numbers. Members were well pleased with the range of prizes on offer and they were well distributed among those present.
This being the end of proceedings it fell to Fran to thank Pam and David for their contribution and presenting another good Christmas social. Then it was hands to the pumps as the clearing up began. All the food remains were snapped up and the members having cleared away the tables and chairs went on their way having spent a couple of hours or so in good company and having what after all is a bit of fun.
